Allison Porter is a Registered Dietitian who specializes in the relationship between nutrition and behavioral health, including but not limited to eating disorders. She has provided high quality medical nutrition therapy in both inpatient and outpatient settings in NC including Wilmington Treatment Center, JFK ADATC, Carolina Dunes, The Willows at Red Oak, and Healing Together Counseling & Wellness. Allison most recently served as the dietitian for Coastal Horizons Center, a non-profit organization which includes Wilmington Health Access for Teens (WHAT) and the school wellness centers. This allowed her to offer nutrition services to teenagers in all 4 public high schools in Wilmington. She currently specializes in treating eating disorders in adolescents while also seeing clients of all ages with a myriad of issues such as autoimmunity, food allergies, bariatric surgery, autism, and ARFID. Allison earned her Bachelors of Science in Nutrition from The University of Texas at Austin where she also completed UT’s Coordinated Program in Dietetics internship. Between the degree and the internship, Allison completed 200 hours of yoga teacher training in Integrative Yoga Therapy (IYT) and has since undergone both official and unofficial training in nutrition, yoga, and the overarching field of wellness. She infuses her nutrition interventions with mindfulness and other principles of yogic philosophy. Allison incorporates research on stress management, the gut-brain axis, intuitive eating, Health At Every Size, body awareness, self-compassion, and self-directed neuroplasticity into her customized nutrition counseling sessions.
